Grade 6 BandGrade 6 band is for any student who has not played a wind instrument before. Students can play flute, clarinet, alto sax, French horn, trumpet, trombone, and baritone. For students wishing to play percussion some piano experience or percussion lessons are strongly advised.
After the student has had one year of class lessons, or has satisfactorily completed the beginning book, he or she is eligible for membership in the more advanced group. Ability to sight-read music, knowledge of musical terms, playing in tune, understanding rhythm, proven spirit and good behaviour are factors upon which the student is evaluated. Several clinics will be made available in early September to help students get a “quick start” on their instruments. Please watch for more details! Parents of beginning reed players should aim for a 2.5 reed, and keep about 3 on hand. Buying a pack of 10 is definitely cheaper though, and sure to get you through a significant portion of the year. |
